Is a Riversdale farmer who completed a PhD in History at the University of Otago in 2005. His doctorate centred on aspects relating to the aftermath of the Gallipoli campaign. He is also writing several books on military-related topics. One aspect of his thesis was o the "Commemorative Primacy of Gallipoli" which is very topical during any Anzac Day. Today we ask him why so many young New Zealanders flock to Gallipoli on April 25th.

Author of "Albaneta - Lost Opportunity at Cassino". It relates the tale of a little known attack in Italy during World War 2 by 15 Kiwi tanks of C Squadron, 20th Armoured Regiment. The men of this South Island squadron achieved initial success beyond expectations in the mountains behind the Monastery at Cassino. The book recounts that success at Albaneta, and the causes of a sadly wasted opportunity which had the potential to avoid many of the later infantry losses below the Monastery in the township of Cassino.
